Final Project

Click HERE to see The FINAL PROJECT For my final, I did a video of what Christmas is like in Florida.  As someone who grew up in NJ, I am used to a cold, snowy Christmas.  Down in Florida, snow is practically non-existent and the spirit of Christmas shows in other ways.  One of those ways is through Christmas lights.  The Botanical Gardens in St. Petersburg Florida has a light show that they host every year.  They decorate the gardens with Christmas lights.  Seeing a palm tree in Christmas lights was a strange experience, but I did enjoy the lights and atmosphere of the place. Xerox project

for this project. I xerox copied my forearm and hand serveral times at different sizes to create a project that resembled a tree. The inspiration came from looking at projects online of others who used  body parts to create art. I saw a resemblance between a forearm, hand and a tree. The project was printed on several sheets of 12x18 paper, cut out and glued together to appear like a tree.

30x30 Project

For this project, I made a 30x30x8 starburst castle.  I used gorilla glue to stick starbursts together to form the castle.    My inspiration came from building castles in minecraft.  I have always found the architecture of a castle to be very beautiful and it has always been my go to structure to build in minecraft.      The issue I struggled with most in the project was getting the glue to harden while maintaining the structure.  Overall though, it was a fun project that helped expand my understanding of working in all 3 dimensions

HIstory of Console Gaming Systems

Eamonn Keenan Art 211 10/17/2017 History of Console Gaming Systems      One of the most well-known pieces of technology in the 20th century is none other than the video game console.  With some of the biggest brands like Microsoft creating Xbox and Sony creating the Playstation, the video game console has become a hobby to many children and adults around the world.      The history of video game consoles started earlier than I anticipated with the first system coming out in 1967.  A German television engineer named Ralph Baer created the Brown Box with the help of co-workers.  The game was simple; one box chases another box on the screen.  Eventually, the creators added on a ray gun, as well as 12 other games.  They used a vacuum tube circuit that connects to the television.      5 years later the Odyssey was the 2nd ever console to be created.  Based off of the Brown Box, Magnavox was the first company to sell video game consoles.  They attempted to sell the consoles along s

Stop Animation

This stop animation is based off the concept of how most college kids drink. It is meant to be a lighthearted video that also sheds light on the reality of college kids this day and age. The project was done by hand in a medieval art history book. I then used adobe premiere to create the video. Having some experience in animation, I knew what to expect when making a stop motion animation. The process is very tedious, but when done correctly can create great videos. For my project, I wish I had planned out the animation itself better. The mistakes I did make though feel like they are rookie mistakes and could be fixed easily.

Opera Assignment - Die Walküre

Eamonn Keenan Art 211 Fall 2017 Opera Assignment Die Walküre Response             In the opera, Die Walküre, stories are told from Norse Mythology.   Stories of love, betrayal, and hardships are told in 3 Acts that add to a total of 3 hours and 56 minutes.   Considering it was my first opera I have ever watched in full I will say it definitely had interesting moments throughout.   The specific opera that I watched used a semi-circle, wooden ramp as a stage that curled around the orchestra.   They also used minimal props, which I found to force the viewer to use their imagination throughout the Acts.             For Act 1, We have a story about Sigmund, a Norse Mythology hero, who is travelling through a storm and is wounded.   He passes out in a yard from exhaustion and is discovered by Hunding’s wife, Sieglinde.   Whether it is from pure boredom or is truly sincere, she has an attraction to Sigmund.   He tells her he was wounded in a battle and was fleeing from enemies.

Sound of Music Blog

After watching one of the clips for "Sound of Music" I picked up on a few that changes in the progression of technology in performance art.  The clip that I saw was filmed on a camera in what seemed like sometime in the 1960's.  The ability to use a better camera than what was used to record operas already helps the ability to better tell the story.      Also, the performance was taken it what appeared to be a closed set.  To be able to control a setting from all angles and use multiple cameras creates a depth in the room that could not be done in opera.  They also were able to create the appearance of the weather outside the set because of it being a closed set, just furthering the ability to suspend disbelief while watching.      The last thing I noticed was that the content of the broadway was more upbeat than what we had previously seen with operas.  In "Sound of Music" the woman is singing to children about all the things that make her happy while th
